Project’s Goal

The goal of the SMAT project is to develop an automated solution for stop-motion animation by integrating an XY table for precise robot movement and servos to control body articulation. The system allows sequential frame capture with a camera, reducing manual intervention and optimizing post-production time.

Overview

The SMAT project is an integrated automated system designed to streamline and assist the stop-motion animation process. It combines an XY table, which provides controlled movement of the puppet, with a servo motor embedded to execute fine movements. A central controller communicates with these hardware components to efficiently execute a sequence of movements and trigger the camera for frame capture. The system also integrates software modules responsible for user interface management, movement control, image processing for background removal, and video rendering. This approach minimizes the animator’s intervention, improving the accuracy of frame capture and significantly reducing post-production time.
